KEC started it's manufacturing activity in collaboration with the Brush Electric and Engineering Company Ltd. Of U.K. They added variety and range of electric motors. KEC began to manufacture transformers in 1953 other than AC motors.
KEC got into manufacturing of DC motors in 1961. In 1964 the invention of the thyristor drive gave the DC motor a tremendous new lease of life. Hence KEC signed a collaboration agreement with Thorn EMI Automation Ltd.
Ravi Kirloskar became The Managing Director of KEC in 1970 and was elected Chairman in 1976. By then, KEC had begun manufacturing manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding equipments and had a name for itself in rotating machines.

KEC set up it's first joint venture Company in Malaysia , and a second in Kenya , to manufacture electric motors, alternators, pumps and diesel engines. Soon because of need a trading company was also started in Malaysia.
Ravi Kirloskar concentrated mainly on electronics. He finalised agreements with Electroheating ( London ) Ltd. And Thorn Automation Ltd. to manufacture tube welders, speed drive controls and systems.
