His first concern was the medical and educational needs of the workers. The Svardann Trust provided scholarships to worker's children in engineering and medical colleges, equipment for handicapped children, physiotherapy and medication for asthmatics.
 
He was a trained singer and loved both Indian and western classical music. He was also good amateur photographer.

An enthusiastic sportsman, he played tennis and swam regularly. But his true love was golf. He was president of the Indian Golf Union as well as the Asia Pacific Golf Federation. It was he who persuaded the organisers to include golf as one of the items in the Asian Games of '82 and selected the Indian team that walked with two gold and one silver medal.
