The history of KEC is studded with customization achievements that few engineering companies would even attempt.

When India embarked on an indigenization drive to substitute for imports in the seventies, KEC took the lead in the electrical engineering sector to ensure that quality standards did not dip.

Kec worked closely with Indian Defense establishment to take up innovative tasks which called for a high degree of expertise like containerized power supply units for missile projects, power sources for application and high security communication systems.
 
When Indian Railways built the first of the Power cars for Rajadhani, The Development and Standard Organization of Railways along with KEC designers brought out improved versions customizing the generators for arduous working in coaches subjected to horizontal and vertical accelerations for several years. Even today KEC supplies several versions of AC generators to Power cars.
 
The R&D facilities include testing labs that have achieved certification by the leading organization of the world for USA & UK even the hard to get NVLAP Accreditation from the US Federal Government.
